I got a chance to set foot on the UF football practice fields this afternoon, and it wasn't to watch the Gators play.
Instead, I got to test my own skills and participate in the Fastest Gator on Campus contest by running the 40-yard dash.
Only UF students could participate, and the fastest runners will ultimately be narrowed down to five. Those select few will get a chance to race against some of the fastest players on the football team at the Orange and Blue spring football game.
My roommate and I ran last year, and so we decided to give it another shot this time around to try and improve our times.
Mission accomplished - for me, at least.
I checked in at 5.09, about a tenth of a second faster than my previous best.
Nothing spectacular, but I'll just blame the gusts of wind for not allowing me to break the 5-second barrier.
I did beat my roommate by a small margin, however.
The fastest time someone got while I was there was 4.42 -- blazing.
After I finished running, I walked over to the football stadium and couldn't help but hear the voice of Tim Tebow barking out orders.
Though the team did not have a scheduled practice today, it appeared as if the players were having a walk-through.
Tebow's voice was no less intense.
I caught a glimpse of his "The Promise" plaque on my way out of The Swamp just for a little inspiration.
I guess only the words of Tebow could have helped me forget about my lack of speed.
