Injured USF DE returns, but is limited

TAMPA - USF defensive end Aaron Harris had a protective boot removed from his ankle Wednesday and practiced on a limited basis.

Coach Jim Leavitt said he was doubtful for Saturday's game against Louisville.

Receiver Amarri Jackson, who has a bruised bone in his knee, won't be back until a bowl game, according to Jackson's cousin, running back Mike Ford.

Leavitt ruled Jackson out Saturday, but hopes he can play Nov. 24 at Pittsburgh.

UF: No Harvin change

GAINESVILLE - The status of receiver Percy Harvin, who has been sick for a week, is not improving, coach Urban Meyer said. His status for Saturday's game against FAU is in doubt

"Percy was in the health center," Meyer said. "They had him hooked up on IVs. He was not in good shape when I saw him."

Meyer said last week that Harvin had a sinus infection; Wednesday he cited migraine headaches.

Harvin missed last week's game against South Carolina.

POUNCEY UPDATE: Freshman offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey, who has a sprained ankle, was moving around at practice, and Meyer said there's a decent chance he'll be ready.

Redshirt freshman Maurice Hurt, who was expected to fill in for Pouncey, injured his shoulder and did not practice Wednesday.

Redshirt freshman Marcus Gilbert could see extended playing time as a result.

"He's really had a good couple weeks," Meyer said.

Cameron Newton MAY PLAY: With the Gators favored to handily beat FAU, backup quarterback Cameron Newton may play.

Meyer said Cameron Newton has had two strong weeks of practice.

"He's really come on," Meyer said. "We're having that conversation (about him playing), which is something we haven't had earlier because he was injured and he just wasn't developed."

Cameron Newton has played in four games, completing 4 of 6 for 32 yards. He has rushed 10 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how long Florida sticks with starter Tim Tebow, as his statistics Saturday could impact his Heisman Trophy candidacy.

FSU: Parker at RB

TALLAHASSEE - Though coach Bobby Bowden said again that starter Antone Smith should be ready for Saturday's game against Maryland, Preston Parker will also see snaps in the backfield. The Seminoles' leading receiver with 47 receptions worked this week at running back.

"I guess its another way to get me the ball," he said.

Injury update: Starting cornerback Tony Carter returned to practice after sitting out Monday and Tuesday with symptoms of a concussion. Also, linebacker Toddrick Verdell is out for the rest of the season. Verdell broke his foot during Saturday's loss to Virginia Tech.

Jamey Givens, Times correspondent

UM: Wet practice

CORAL GABLES - The Hurricanes practiced for more than an hour in a driving rainstorm.

"It was a good day because the rain could have been a distraction, but we practiced through the rain and the water," coach Randy Shannon said. "The best thing was we didn't have any fumbled snaps, any bad snaps. Guys were flying around and concentrating."
