Auburn names Barrett Trotter No. 2 quarterback, A.J. Greene starting right tackle
Trotter is a sophomore from Birmingham's Briarwood Christian High School. He was redshirted in 2008 and did not play in 2009 as he recovered from a knee injury. He passed for 7,968 yards and 88 touchdowns at Briarwood. He was an All-State quarterback his senior year.
"Barrett has been taking most of the snaps as the No. 2 quarterback, and we solidified that today,"
said coach Gene Chizik.
"Barrett has done some nice things. He's progressed the whole time. We feel very confident he can win for us."
Trotter takes the primary backup role from senior Neil Caudle, who was 15 of 20 passing for 170 yards in limited action last year. Caudle also had a 52-yard touchdown run.
"Neil Caudle is just a great Auburn young man,"
Chizik said. "I have a lot of trust in him."
Trotter also won the job over redshirt freshman Clint Moseley.
Chizik said he plans to take all four quarterbacks on road games.

Greene was redshirted in 2007 and has played in three games the last two years.
"He's the one who's done the best at tackle, and he won the job,"
Chizik said.
Greene said earlier this week that he was determined to make an impression this fall.
"I just came out with the right mindset. I told myself it was time. I'm proving it now. I'm not surprised at all,"
he said.
