Tebow voting mystery remains unsolved ... for now
It's the million-dollar question at SEC Media Days this week: Which SEC coach left Florida quarterback Tim Tebow off the first team on his preseason All-SEC ballot?
Tebow has won one Heisman Trophy and two national championships, but he couldn't muster all 11 votes in the balloting by the coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin, who feuded with Gators coach Urban Meyer during the offseason, said this week that Tebow was his first-team choice. And the four coaches here Wednesday - Kentucky's Rich Brooks, Vanderbilt's Bobby Johnson, Arkansas' Bobby Petrino and former Gators assistant Dan Mullen of Mississippi State - said they had Tebow on the first team.
That narrows the list to five (assuming Mississippi's Houston Nutt voted for Tebow since he couldn't put his quarterback, All-SEC second-teamer Jevan Snead, on his ballot). And you can bet all of them will be asked about it at the podium this week - as Brooks and Co. were Wednesday.
"You guys are going to try to narrow it down to get somebody to spill their guts?"
Brooks said. "How could I not vote for Tim Tebow? We couldn't stop him the last few years. ... It isn't me. I'm not the guy. Good luck in your search."
